Board Governance BootCamp Continues to prepare non-profit leaders for success!

Our annual three-day Board Governance BootCamp was held at the Bingemans Conference Centre on November 28, 29 and 30th. Led by an incredible roster of industry professionals, including CEOs, EDs, and board members, the BootCamp was attended by over 200 participants across Canada. A spectacular lineup of 14 speakers, including keynote speakers Cassie Campbell, a celebrated Olympic gold-winning hockey player, Steven Woods, who is partner and CTO at Inovia and an expert in Artificial Intelligence, and Eldon Sprickerhoff, founder & strategic advisor, eSentire, covered vast topics such as cybersecurity, AI, risk management, understanding your organization’s financial statements, collaborative governance approaches, and creating an inclusive culture. Here are some of the highlights from this year’s BootCamp.

Transformative Impact of Gen Z on Boards

Despite comprising 22% of Waterloo Region’s population, young individuals are notably underrepresented on various Boards. The Gen Z on Boards project, funded by the Astley Family Foundation, aims to bridge this gap by offering training, mentoring, coaching, and aligning youth with boards that align with their interests and directly impact the community. By integrating youth onto boards, they can offer invaluable perspectives to address the issues that deeply concern them. Simultaneously, organizations focused on youth services will gain enhanced tools and skills. Applications are currently open if you know of someone who is interested.

Register now for Modern Board: Essentials of Governing

Serving on a board is both a privilege and a responsibility, but often, it isn’t easy to understand where to start and how to become a good board member. Capacity Canada’s Modern Board program equips board directors with the credentials they need to demonstrate their abilities to stakeholders in a concrete way. A great starting place for anyone who has not previously been part of a board, the program is a unique and credible two-course online training module.

Those completing both Essentials and Advance courses for Modern Board will receive valuable accreditation necessary to demonstrate their board governance capacity. In addition to Capacity Canada accreditation, participants will earn a micro-credential in partnership with Conestoga College’s continuing education program.
