Social Innovation Monthly
December 2, 3, and 4, 2021- Virtual
Capacity Canada is pleased to announce that its upcoming Board Governance BootCamp will be communications accessible for Deaf/deaf persons with an ASL interpreter and closed captioning for hard of hearing person or persons with hearing loss. Further details can be obtained by contacting Andrew Wilding [email protected].
This year’s theme of BootCamp is Transforming Governance: Preparing Your Board for Diversity. Board members and E.D.’s will not want to miss this extraordinary opportunity to change their organizations. BootCamp will be led by an incredible roster of Indigenous, Black, and Muslim experts.
For any non-profit, the Board of Directors plays a critical role in making a powerful and positive impact as it advances an organization’s mission. To fulfill this role, it is imperative that Directors are properly trained in the responsibilities and demands of a governance position. Yet, many Boards often struggle to adequately educate new and existing Directors. Without the right education, resources, and guidance for their Directors, Boards may fall short of reaching their organizational goals.
Sponsorship opportunities exist to ensure the success of this Governance BootCamp. To learn more about sponsorships, contact Cathy Brothers, CEO, Capacity Canada at [email protected]
By attending our 2021 Board Governance BootCamp:
• You will have a greater awareness of systemic racism in our communities
• You will have an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences
• You will develop a plan for the next steps in your response to the transformation
Governance BootCamp Price
The price to attend this year’s Governance BootCamp is $600 per person. If you have any questions please contact Andrew Wilding at [email protected]

Designing for Impact
Our Designing for Impact team has completed its first sprint with two participating organizations – Wilmot Family Resource Centre and the Muslim Association of Canada. As a result, four prototypes have been created by the two non-profits to help support our diverse communities in different ways.
The team from the Wilmot Family Resource Centre has developed two prototypes. One explores the notion of a community ambassadorship program that would educate and inform residents about the good work happening in Wilmot and Wellesley townships. The second prototype is the development of a new community-wide art installation tentatively called “The Path” that would include living or movable art made by local artists to share their story, history, and vision for the future.
The team of eight women from the Muslim Association of Canada focused on developing culturally responsive solutions intended to improve the experience of Muslim youth in foster care. They have also successfully developed two prototypes – one focusing on creating a youth champions program and the other focused on creating an online interactive guide called “Hope Away from Home.” The guide explains the fostering process and provides alternative ways for the Muslim community to support Muslim children in care.
