Social Prosperity Wood Buffalo recently partnered with Nonprofit Sector Link Wood Buffalo (LINK) to launch a great tool called the Wood Buffalo Nonprofit Learning & Development e-calendar. This online calendar is a central place where all Wood Buffalo nonprofit organizations can find upcoming professional development and learning opportunities, training and workshops available in the region.
The tool was launched at the August 18 Get Up & Go Wood Buffalo nonprofit networking breakfast where nonprofit community exhibitors met to network and hear from guest speakers such as Bonnah Carey, Chair of theNonprofit Sector Link, Leslie Ross, graduate of Keyano’s Nonprofit Management Certificate program and Ian Hill who will be leading the RMWB’s Leadership Boot Camp starting in September.
Attendees at the breakfast also heard from Jennifer LaMontagne with MacDonald Island Park about the importance of networking and tips on how to get the most out of your networking. Tips like making sure you have an easily accessible pocket to hold your business cards when you are attending a meeting or event. And, making quick notes on your business cards after an event so you recall important details about the people you met. And most important, making it a point to follow up on those business cards you collected!
In addition to collaborating with LINK to launch the e-calendar at Get Up & Go Wood Buffalo, Social Prosperity has created the Wood Buffalo Nonprofit Learning and Development Consortium. In our Framework for Building Prosperous Communities, Social Prosperity has “investing in ongoing education and skill building” as one of the key strategies for building capacity in the people in the nonprofit sector. The creation of the Learning and Development Consortium is one of the ways in which we’re addressing this strategy. The Consortium’s mandate is to “Share, plan together and collaborate around professional development and learning opportunities for nonprofit organizations, staff and volunteers in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB)”. The Consortium will now be managed through LINK with our support and will hold regular meetings to ensure a collaborative approach to meeting the professional development and learning needs of the nonprofits in the region.
