Volunteer Connect York Region (formerly Volunteer Markham) is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving Markham, Richmond Hill, and Vaughan communities, their residents, and community service organizations. Our vision is an engaged and caring Markham where our youth become volunteers for life, and residents are engaged in the community. Our mission is to provide Markham residents and volunteer organizations with leadership and resources to promote volunteerism and enrich the lives of those in our community.

Role Description

This is a volunteer position- As the Fund Development Chair at Volunteer Connect York Region, your responsibilities include leading fundraising efforts by developing and implementing strategies to secure financial support from various donors. You will cultivate strong relationships with donors, organize fundraising events, and engage in grant writing to support organizational goals. Additionally, you will collaborate with the Treasurer to manage fundraising budgets, monitor financial activities, and provide regular reports to the board on fundraising outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience in fundraising and organizational development
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector and volunteerism
  • Experience with community-based organizations is a bonus
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral degree in a related field or equivalent experience

Requirements

  • Previous experience serving on a non-profit Board is an asset
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Minimum 10 hour monthly time commitment
  • Maintains a positive attitude – is outgoing and cheerful with stakeholder interactions
  • Ability to work with confidential information with discretion
  • Familiar with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Self-motivated with ability to work well independently remotely and as a team
  • Minimum age 18 years old
  • Resident of York Region is preferred
