About the Position

Impact Statement

As a registered charity, Spectrum relies on a strong Board of Directors to govern the organization. Board members help ensure governance of Spectrum so the organization can provide services and programs for the benefit of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in Waterloo Region.

We are looking for a Treasurer to help oversee our financial management. Day to day bookkeeping is managed by staff but the Treasurer will work with staff on budgeting, financial planning, and making sure that the organization operates within its budgetary constraints.

Description

The treasurer is responsible for presenting financial reports to the board of directors and other stakeholders including the organization’s income and expenses, assets and liabilities, and other financial performance indicators. They establish proper internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets and prevent fraud or misuse of funds. They ensure that the nonprofit is compliant with all relevant financial and accounting regulations, as well as legal requirements or reporting obligations specific to charitable organizations. They are involved in decision-making related to investments, and the management of grants and donations.

The treasurer collaborates with other board members to develop long-term financial strategies that align with the organization’s mission and goals and is involved in annual audits or financial reviews to ensure the accuracy and transparency of the organization’s financial statements.

Training / Work Conditions

Training Details: The organization’s leadership will train the chosen candidate in the needs and functions of the role.
Working Conditions: Board members must be contributing members of the organization through a contribution of any amount or volunteering at least 30 hours each fiscal year (August-July). Board terms are two years long, and no member may serve more than six terms. Spectrum’s Board can have up to 15 members at a time.
The successful candidate will be asked to make a minimum commitment of two years with approximately four to six hours of work monthly.

Duration: 1 year or more
Weekday – Evening, Weekend – Daytime
The Board typically meets on the third Sunday of each month at 10am. Committee meetings typically take place in the early evening on weekdays.
