Purpose: Our mission at Capacity Canada is to raise the profile and quality of social innovation across Canada, as well as to influence the state of the field internationally. We use the Social Innovation Award as one of its mechanisms for doing so.
Capacity Canada’s Social Innovation Award is selected based on the following framework. In addition to the context for the award, the process for selection and timeline are described below.
The Award: The winning organization will be added into Capacity Canada’s Hall of Fame with receipt of this Social Innovation Award on Opening Night, November 28, 2023, at Capacity Canada’s Board Governance BootCamp.
Candidates: It is a unique opportunity for Capacity Canada to demonstrate its commitment to building a culture of social innovation across the country through the award. As a result of this award, Capacity Canada demonstrates its commitment to funding leading-edge activities that have the potential to demonstrate large-scale impact. To improve the quality of life for Canadians; risk-taking, innovation, creativity, and boldness are encouraged and amplified through this award.
The award recognizes a recipient in one of the following categories.
- Individuals (individuals or small groups)
- Organizations (including non-profits and for-profits)
- Various communities (municipalities, ethno-cultural communities, etc.)
This award will be given to an individual, organization, or community that is committed to the following:
- Creating a culture of innovation, creativity, and risk-taking
- Demonstrating impact
- Building an ecosystem for social innovation:
- Sustained effort
- Demonstrated Leadership

Recognition of Recipients: Recipients of Capacity Canada Social Innovation Award will be recognized in Media Release, on Capacity Canada Hall of Fame website, and, through Capacity Canada social media sites. Recipients will receive an award, suitable for posting on their website and LinkedIn profiles.
