Applications open for Apprenticeship Program – Resilient and Diverse Communities By Design

With the generous support of the Suncor Energy Foundation, Capacity Canada is offering an Apprenticeship Program to build capacity in the practice of human-centred design within the social good sector. The selected individuals will participate in a nine-month paid Apprenticeship Program focused on learning about and applying design thinking to address complex issues in the social good sector.

The apprenticeship experience will involve formal educational sessions to learn about the process and tools of human-centred design and coaching and mentoring in applying them to address a specific challenge or opportunity for an organization in the sector. The desire is to have the apprentices be nominated or co-sponsored by organizations that would have a project that their affiliated apprentice would work on during the Program.

People from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply as we feel the spirit of human-centred design is well suited to addressing many of the challenges faced by these communities. Learn more about the program and how you could apply on our website.

Free Webinar – HR Compliance for Directors: Protecting Yourself from Personal Liability

Those who join as directors of non-profit organizations seldom realize that they risk personal liability when they agree to join a volunteer board of directors. Directors of non-profit boards across Canada may have personal liability for non-compliance with some specific employment laws. This risk, however, is easily managed. But one needs to understand their liability and what their organization needs to do to comply with the laws.

The upcoming free webinar – Protecting Yourself from Personal Liability: HR Compliance for Directors – offered by Gayle Wadden and Lesha Vanderbij of Compliance Works Inc. will provide insight into these liability risks, how to manage them, and protect yourself.

Celebrating Women’s History Month

The month of March every year marks the beginning of Women’s History Month. It’s a time to celebrate the strong, brave women who have broken down barriers and made crucial contributions to our society. The 2022 theme is “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” This theme is “both a tribute to the ceaseless work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and also a recognition of the thousands of ways that women of all cultures have provided both healing and hope throughout history.”

At Capacity Canada, we believe that it is important to provide platforms that amplify women’s voices. We take pride in working with our team that comprises of 21 women and 12 men from diverse backgrounds. Our new project – Makeover: Women’s Leadership Co-Creation Studio: Advancing Equitable Nonprofit Sector Change funded by Women and Gender Equality Canada (WAGE) – will support a feminist response and recovery from the current impacts of COVID-19 through systemic change. Capacity Canada will achieve this by addressing systemic barriers to women’s underrepresented participation within both services’ delivery leadership and governance roles of non-profit organizations.
