DIRECTOR OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

ABOUT US:

The Volunteer Well is a Canadian non-profit that connects volunteers who offer their skills and time (i.e., “givers”) and individuals who need support (i.e., “receivers”) directly, aiming to create a more inclusive, compassionate society through a direct-source volunteering model. By bridging the gap between demand and supply of charitable resources as well as by offering programs and courses, it empowers individuals and strengthens communities, particularly focusing on marginalized groups such as women, elderly, new immigrants, low-income, youth, people with disabilities and those facing discrimination of any sort such as 2SLGBTQI+, Black, Indigenous or People of Color.

The mission of the Volunteer Well is to empower individuals, strengthen families, connect communities, and unite humanity by promoting a direct-source volunteering system rooted in generosity, inclusivity, and mutual support.

OUR CHARITABLE PURPOSE

The Volunteer Well is a Canadian federally registered charity, with the overall charity classification of being a ‘community welfare’ organization, that follows the following CRA-approved charitable purpose.

  • To address and prevent specific problems faced by women, LGBTQ++, marginalized people in financial need, new immigrants and Black, Indigenous and People of colour families facing disadvantages, such as poverty and unemployment by providing programs beneficial to the community that are charitable at law, such as job mentorship workshops and health resources, that teach a variety of life skills as well as integration into Canadian society to help them become active members/volunteers of their community.
  • To relief conditions attributed to being aged by providing a variety of programs that will help alleviate social isolation and loneliness
  • To address and prevent specific problems faced by children and youth by providing a variety of programs that will assist with overall development, teaching life skills and helping become active members/volunteers in their
  • and to do all such things as are ancillary and incidental to the attainment of this charitable purpose

 

HOW ARE WE CARRYING OUT THE MANDATE?

The Volunteer Well carries out its mandate through four pillars:

  • The portal- website and the smart phone app- Individual Community Members, connecting givers and receivers to reduce reliance on traditional non-profits and promote joy, fulfillment, and deeper community ties;
  • Programs and Events, serving diverse groups including children, seniors, women, immigrants, and marginalized communities, ensuring accessibility for low-income and disabled participants; and
  • Social enterprises & Businesses, General public & High Net Worth Individuals, engaging philanthropic local businesses and individuals through donations and sponsorships;
  • Speaking Opportunities, where Founder Shabnam Naz Ansari promotes Direct-Source Volunteering System based on the science of generosity and the law of giving and receiving.

 

THE JOB DETAILS

Brief Overview

Our skill-based Board is a reflection of our diverse community. Our volunteer Board of Directors oversees all the charity’s day-to-day operations, fundraising, communications, and marketing activities. The Director works closely with Board members to assist them in implementing all strategic plans and carrying out our mandate. At The Volunteer Well, we passionately strive to uphold our commitments to being an inclusive space not just for our board and staff, but all clients, including our events and programs’ participants, partners, individuals, non-profit organizations, foundations and local businesses etc. We champion inclusion and diversity in all parts of our organization and are strong believers that a diverse workforce is key to the ongoing and future success of the charity.

The Director of Operations Management will play a pivotal role in overseeing the strategy, design, and execution of the charity’s programs and events, specifically tailored for marginalized segments including the elderly, youth, women and self-identifying females, new immigrants, people with disabilities, low-income families, and those facing discrimination, including LGBTQ++, non-binary individuals, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). This position requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of program management, event coordination, and operations, ensuring that the charity’s initiatives are impactful and aligned with its mission. As a board member, the Director will also provide oversight for all operational processes, including event planning and management for fundraising and community outreach activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of the charity’s empowerment programs for marginalized communities, ensuring programs are high-impact, inclusive, and aligned with the charity’s
  • Provide strategic oversight to program coordinators to ensure high-quality delivery of initiatives and events for the marginalized communities across multiple cities in Ontario.
  • Collaborate with program coordinators and event management teams to design, launch, and evaluate programs that remove barriers to inclusion and support community integration and empowerment.
  • Manage operational processes, including the planning and execution of events, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and alignment with the charity’s goals.
  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of fundraising and community engagement events, ensuring seamless event coordination and successful outcomes.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure programs are effectively promoted, delivered, and evaluated, and that all logistical needs (e.g., catering, AV, room bookings) are met.

Key Tasks:

  • Oversee the development and execution of high-quality, inclusive empowerment programs for marginalized segments, with a special focus on the elderly, youth, women and self-identifying females, new immigrants, people with disabilities, low-income families, and those facing discrimination, including LGBTQ++, non-binary individuals, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure programs are client-centered and aligned with the charity’s inclusive approach, helping remove barriers to inclusion and fostering stronger communities.
  • Coordinate program support, marketing, and logistics, including scheduling meetings, tracking metrics, managing event calendars, and resolving issues as needed.
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to program coordinators, ensuring they meet program objectives, manage stakeholder partnerships, and deliver impactful community initiatives.
  • Oversee the planning and management of fundraising and community outreach events, ensuring alignment with operational goals and smooth execution.
  • Commit to attending 4-6 board meetings per year (virtually or in-person) and actively participate in decision-making processes.
  • Abide by conflict-of-interest guidelines and ensure operational transparency and fairness in the management of resources.
  • Commit to a 3-year position on the board- renewable for further term upon expiry and commit attendance to at-least 10 monthly board meetings and one Annual General Meeting every year.
  • Ensure that the charity’s operational processes and program management strategies are aligned with bylaws, rules, and regulations.

Other Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Collaborate with other directors to ensure the charity’s programs and events contribute meaningfully to its mission of empowering marginalized communities.
  • Promote and uphold The Volunteer Well’s values of inclusivity, diversity, and community service in all operational and program activities.

This Director role offers the opportunity to lead the operational strategy of the charity, ensuring its programs and events are impactful, inclusive, and designed to uplift marginalized communities across Ontario in the first stage and then across Canada later on.
