Waterloo Region – December 1, 2021 – Capacity Canada kicks off its annual three-day Board Governance BootCamp on Thursday. The theme of this year’s BootCamp is Transforming Governance: Preparing Your Board for Diversity. Mumilaaq Qaqqaq, former MP from Nunavut, will be the keynote speaker on the opening night of the event that will be hosted virtually.

Our BootCamp, sponsored by Manulife, will be led by an incredible roster of Indigenous, Black, and Muslim experts. We have a spectacular lineup of 20 speakers covering vast topics. Some of our speakers include Mide, Founder and CEO of AGENTSC Inc.; Andria Barrett, a prominent Black business leader and a SheEO Activator; and Memona Hossain, one of the board of directors of the Muslim Association of Canada, among others.

A few of the sessions and highlights of this year’s BootCamp include – To Achieve Board Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Start with Mindsets and Beliefs led by Natalie Walrond, Director, Resilient and Healthy Schools, and Communities, WestEd San Francisco; Case Study of FACS Waterloo’s efforts related to Indigenous Families and the Agency’s Plans to Change; Perspectives on Islam & Muslims in Organizational Leadership; and so on.

Capacity Canada is also pleased to announce that this year’s Governance BootCamp is Communications Accessible for Deaf/Deaf Persons with an ASL Interpreter and real closed captioning for Hard of Hearing Person or Person with Hearing Loss.

The Board Governance BootCamp is intended to tackle diversity & equity issues that have the greatest impact on good governance. Each participant leaves the program with a plan for addressing diversity & equity opportunities. Participants will be prepared to lead the organizational change and culture shifts associated with diversity. A follow-up session will provide the opportunity for sharing and celebrating progress towards organizational change.
