Veterinarians Without Borders North America (VWB NA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and welfare of animals, people, and the environment through a One Health approach. We operate across North America and globally, providing veterinary care, supporting sustainable agriculture, enhancing food security, and contributing to global One Health initiatives in underserved communities. As part of the VSF International network, we are active in 55 countries, impacting millions of lives through our work.
We are seeking visionary leaders to join our VWB/VSF Canada Board of Directors and help guide us through our exciting next phase of growth as we implement our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a global organization that is making a tangible difference in the lives of animals and people worldwide.
Position Overview
As a Board Member, you will provide strategic leadership, governance, and oversight for VWB North America. The role is suited to individuals with a passion for global health, animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and social impact. Our Board Members play a critical role in shaping the future of the organization, offering guidance on strategy, fundraising, partnerships, and expanding our impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic direction to support VWB’s mission and ensure alignment with our 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
- Oversee financial performance and accountability, ensuring the organization’s long-term sustainability.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and senior leadership to identify new opportunities for growth and impact.
- Advocate for VWB NA, building relationships with potential partners, donors, and stakeholders.
- Participate in regular board meetings and serve on committees where needed.
- Support fundraising efforts by leveraging personal networks and expertise.
Desired Qualifications
We are seeking candidates who bring diverse experience and perspectives. Ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Fundraising and Philanthropy: Proven experience in fundraising strategy and donor relations.
- Digital Marketing and Communications: Expertise in media relations, digital engagement, social media strategy, or public relations.
- Business Development and Partnerships: Strong background in partnerships, corporate governance, or strategic growth.
- Finance and Risk Management: Experience in financial oversight, nonprofit governance, or risk management.
Commitment
- Board members serve a 3-year term, with the option for reappointment.
- Attendance at four annual board meetings (held virtually) and participation in subcommittees.
- An estimated commitment of 5 hours per month for meetings, committee work, and advocacy efforts.
