Four apprentices selected for Apprenticeship Program

Capacity Canada is excited to announce that it has selected four apprentices for its Apprenticeship program sponsored by Suncor Energy Foundation. Ariana Gomes, Lucy Borges, Nickolas Collinet, and Cinthuja Leon have been selected to be part of the program.

The apprentices have had an initial meeting as a cohort. We are now into the design-thinking process where they are working with four other individuals from social good organizations. A good start indeed! The course will be completed at the end of June, and this is when the apprentices will begin to formulate their capstone projects that will be delivered in the last half of the year.

ModernBoard

Congratulations to our most recent cohort of 25 board members who successfully completed Capacity Canada’s Essentials of Board Governance course in April 2022. This is the first of the two courses leading to a Governance Micro-Credential in partnership with Conestoga College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning.

The online course helps prepare current and prospective board members to successfully take on the challenge and privilege of serving on a board. Through discussions, reflections, and case scenarios of board governance, students learn the key tools and techniques to become successful contributing members of a non-profit board of directors.

The course – Essentials of Board Governance – will be offered again this Fall. It will begin on September 12th and run until November 7th, 2022. Course 2 will be offered in January 2023, and registration will open in July.

Board Embracing the Vision of Youth!

Capacity Canada’s new project – Boards Embracing the Vision of Youth – aims to train and match youth with boards that directly serve the community that matches their interests. Funded by Astley Family Foundation, the project will work with youth between the ages of 18 and 24 from diverse communities.

By being involved in boards of non-profit organizations, youth will be able to offer their perspectives to directly solve the issues that concern them the most. Participation in both the Governance BootCamp and Capacity by Design programs will give youth-serving organizations improved tools and skills in understanding and addressing issues that youth are concerned about. Further, youth involvement in BootCamps will help frame solutions through a youth-centered lens, especially in governance approaches and frameworks.
