Staff Recruitment and Retention Discussion

What can be done about staff recruitment and retention in Wood Buffalo? It’s time we worked together to address this issue!

Staff recruitment and retention is one of the biggest challenges facing the social profit sector in Wood Buffalo. The 2013 Capacity Assessment Survey demonstrated a positive relationship between capacity and the length of time a senior leader remains in his or her position.  However, the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (CCVO) 2013 Alberta Nonprofit Survey reported a 50% turnover in the leadership of Wood Buffalo’s social profit sector over the past two years.  This high rate of turnover has a significant impact of the capacity of the sector.

Challenges recruiting and retaining the right people in the right jobs are not limited to the social profit sector, but are also experienced in government and industry.

Social Prosperity Wood Buffalo is convening this staff recruitment and retention discussion to explore how all sectors in Wood Buffalo can work together to improve staff recruitment and retention and to reduce the negative impacts of high turnover.

We’re bringing together HR experts and senior leaders to build on their expertise, develop communication and support networks across all sectors, and to surface resources that already exist in the community.
